he best up-market residential development in the Polokwane area” – that’s the view of the developers of Thornhill Estate. Either way, it’s certainly one of the largest, and when completed later this year will be home to about 1 000 households.
For Technicrete, Thornhill is also one of the largest single projects in the region in which it has been involved as a supplier of paving materials. No fewer than four different styles and six different shades of paving blocks were used to surface approximately 5kms of roads, driveways and walkways.
On entering the main entrance to Thornhill, and traversing its winding network of roads, residents and visitors are greeted by a pleasing “rainbow” of paving in alternating colour sections of autumn, plum, grey, tan, slate and terracotta.
Paving blocks employed in the project included 80mm interlocking Concor Double Zig-Zag and bevelled-edge Concor Trojan pavers for the heavier-traffic roads, as well as 60mm Double Zig-Zag pavers and 50mm Concor Bond Brick and Concor Cobble Bond pavers for the lighter-traffic areas and walkways.
The developers, Tysocon Properties (Pty), say the decision to use Technicrete pavers exclusively for the very large project was “a quality decision which produced a happy result.” The security gated estate extends over an area of 43ha.
