ONCRETE building products manufacturer Technicrete has been officially re-launched, focusing on its new independent status within the Murray & Roberts Group of companies. Once a Concor Group subsidiary, the company has emerged with a new name -Technicrete - and fresh corporate identity to meet the challenges of future growth in the South African building construction and mining industry.

“We are presenting a new face of Technicrete to our market, with the promise of continuing what our heritage is built on,” Managing Director Paul Deppe told industry representatives at the company’s special re-launch event. “That is great quality products and great quality service.”

Deppe traced the company’s history, from its founding in 1968 as Technicrete, a division of Concor, through the growth and development years - during which it became a major player in the building, construction and mining sectors - to 2006 when the Concor Group was acquired by Murray & Roberts.

“After the acquisition it became apparent that Concor Technicrete could benefit from and add value to the other manufacturing companies within the Murray & Roberts stable,” Deppe said. “For this reason the board of Technicrete endorsed a process which saw the company move away from Concor and become an independent company within the Murray & Roberts construction materials cluster.”

That happened in 2008. And since Technicrete was no longer part of the Concor Group, it was strategically necessary for it to recreate a new identity for itself.

And in addition to the name-change, new logo and corporate dress, it meant moving out from under the Concor corporate roof and relocating its headquarters.

“Despite all these changes,” Deppe told his guests at the company’s new headquarters in Roodepoort, “the values and entrepreneurial spirit that were the hallmarks of those early days remain embedded in all we do.”

With concrete brick, paving, roof tiles, precast and specialist product manufacturing facilities located in six provinces, Deppe is excited about the newly independent company’s future.

He says: “In a cluttered marketplace, with many competitors re-iterating the same message and promising the same, our brand differentiates itself on three key levels. We have a strong history, which allows us to build on our trust marks of heritage and credibility. We are known to deliver on our key promises of quality and product service. We offer a depth of knowledge that is unsurpassed.”
